I just had to be patient and bide my time. 😀

I knew I’d get to post a song from my favorite opera and one of my favorite movies!

A lifelong Phantom of the Opera fan, I also raised my daughter on the Opera Ghost. Separately, we’re pretty annoying. Together… well, you’d probably lock us in a closet. 😀

If you’ve read Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux and seen the Broadway stage production or any of the movies—1925, 1943, 2004—you know none of the remakes closely adhere to the original. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage play is the best, Rupert Julian’s 1925 silent theatrical version starring Lon Chaney is the scariest… and I have no words for the 1943 musical horror version except NO… just NO! (Yes, it won Oscars but technicolor was new! 😀 )

But it’s Webber’s 2004 theatrical version which brought Phantom of the Opera to the general public. Starring Gerard Butler as the Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine, Patrick Wilson as Raoul, and Minnie Driver as Carlotta.

When the vain and spoiled Carlotta suffers an accident, (thank you, Phantom!) Christine Daae sings Think of Me, wins the role and becomes a star!

The main lyrics are about the amicable end of a relationship. Lyrics do differ between  theatrical and stage productions, however, the video and lyrics below are from the 2004 film.

If for some bizarre, unexplainable reason you’ve never read or seen the Phantom of the Opera, it’s currently playing on Netflix. You’re welcome! 🙂

Enjoy!

  1. Love, love, love this. Phantom is my all-time favourite show. Saw it in London’s West End many moons ago. Bought the video, the CD soundtrack, know every word. Thanks for posting this …I’m in Phantom heaven 😉

I can see you’d be in the annoying corner with my daughter and me! 😀

I’ve seen seven productions – 2 Broadway, 5 regional – but my dream is to see it OUTSIDE of the U.S, And the dream lives on! LOL!

      • Phantom was the only show I was prepared to travel to London for. Everything else I’d see on regional tours in my hometown. So, yes, save me a seat in the annoying corner 😉

  2. I can’t even right now… I am in LOVE with all things Phantom! When the play came out, we (me and my sisters) listened to the tape of the original cast Broadway version until it broke. We also had the lyrics and I memorized the hell out of them! When I saw the movie in 2004, I think I cried and sang/spoke the ENTIRE movie! I didn’t love Gerard Butler as the Phantom, but all the other choices were pretty perfect. I love that you picked this one today. Thank you!!!

My family’s known for years if they want to buy me something I’ll love, make sure it has Peewee Herman or the Phantom on it! LOL!

The 2004 movie is my favorite background noise while I write. And since it’s a Phantom-kind of day, guess what’s running on Netflix across the room? LOL!

Good to find out my daughter and I are not the only Phantom-obsessed folks. I was beginning to worry! LOL! Thanks for stopping by, Helen! 🙂

  3. Is there room for me in the annoying corner? I read the book in my French literature class in college and I was hooked. The first time I saw the musical was in its third week in Toronto and Colm Wilkinson was the Phantom. I was on a business trip and got the last seat…12th-row aisle right under the path of the chandelier! I saw it two more times in Vancouver both with Jeff Hyslop (a Canadian theatre icon) in the title role. I loved the movie and have both Broadway and movie soundtracks. “Think of Me” is probably my hands down favourite which is saying a lot since they are all great. Thanks for the memory!

  4. Our music teacher used to play this song, this soundtrack, in class when I was a child. Then, the seventh grade trip was to Toronto to see the musical, but they stopped that right when I arrived at that grade. I’ve never seen it live, but I did watch the movie.

Not such a huge fan, but the song is lovely and it fits the prompt perfectly.
