The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “Around/Down/Sideways/Up.”

I added a direction – back – just so I could use this song! 😀
I’m a big Vanessa Williams fan and Running Back to You was the first single from her breakout second studio album The Comfort Zone. This uptempo song is about a woman who’s still in love with a man that takes her granted, lies all the time, and perhaps cheats. In spite of that, she’s only giving him one more chance, and if things don’t change, she’s walking out and never coming back.
The single became one of the biggest hits of her career; it topped Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for two weeks from October 5 to October 12, 1991 and reached number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100.
A colorful music video, directed by Ralph Ziman, was shot for the single.
Enjoy!

Running Back to You
And I think you’re running out of time
No more jumping in and out of my bed
It’s time for me to draw the line
So you think that you call me the only one
Then walk out the door
And you think that you can run around having fun
And just come back for more
I think that you’re living in a fantasy
It’s got to be them or me
So if you try it one more time
Baby don’t expect me to come running back
Then you’ll think about love, all the good love
I gave to you
I won’t come running
Running back to you
And I’ll find someone, somebody else to give it to
I won’t play the fool no not this time
And I’ll show you just how wrong you are
To think I just can’t get you out of my mind
Then walk out the door
And you think that you can just run around
And come back for more
I think that you’re living in a fantasy
It’s got to be them or me
And if you dis me once more
Baby don’t expect me to come running back
Then you’ll think about love , all the good love
I gave to you
I won’t come running
Running back to you
And I’ll find someone, somebody else to give it to
Or come and go when you want to
I hear you’re playing around when you want to
Any time that you want to
Or just tell me lies when you want to
I got more than you want ah
Oh, and by the way
Then you’ll think about love, all the good love
I gave to you
I won’t come running
Running back to you
And I’ll find someone, somebody else to give it to
Vanessa Williams has a lot of talent, I always liked her. She is still performing and I read that she has a new clothing line.

Yes, Vanessa is not even close to slowing down. She’s only 56 and still looks great!

I love Running Back to You! I only know “Dreamin'” and “Colors of the WInd”, so I don’t much about `The Comfort Zone` album. But I have to check this because this great. It has the new jack swing sound, which I like, and also feels like there is some sort of a freestyle element in “Running Back to You”. I love the high-pitch synthesized piano diddy during the chorus (and after the sax intro).
I love this song! Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite this week!

I am thrilled you are enjoying the music! I’m a huge fan of Vanessa’s and have all her albums/CDs, but highly recommend the first three – The Right Stuff, The Comfort Zone, and The Sweetest Days. Just doesn’t get much better than those! 🙂

It includes samples from six other songs – even one from Milli Vanilli! 😀

New song for me. She sounds like Janet Jackson here. Great choice for the prompt.
